I'm trying to find a way to use the remote streaming function on my FLAC
library of music. Right now I have my .conf file set to trancode my FLAC
files to WAV format for play on my local squeezebox. Is there a way that I
can continue to play my FLAC's as WAV on my local squeezebox, but stream them
as MP3 when remotely connecting to my machine (when using winamp at work for
example)? Or, is there another approach to solving this problem that I'm not
thinking of?

Thanks,
Mark

The included conf file should already be set to transcode to mp3 for streaming.
however, default would be to 320kbps, which is probably too much for streaming.
You'll want to copy the following lines:

flc mp3 * *
$flac$ -dcs $FILE$ | $lame$ --silent -b $BITRATE$ - -

make a set like this:

flc mp3 http *
$flac$ -dcs $FILE$ | $lame$ --silent -b 96 - -

where 96 is the bitrate you want, 32, 56, 64, 129, 192 will all work as well.
Of course, you need FLAC and LAME installed where slimserver can find them
