I love my little Squeezebox, however the better sound quality of the Transporter is so tempting. $2k sounds a reasonable price, unfortunately in Australia the price jumps to $3k. The Australian dollar is nearly on par with the US dollar, so it seems someone is making a pretty hefty mark up on the price in Australia, even allowing for shipping.
Anyone like to comment?

Did you read or search for all the other threads on the subject of international pricing of the Transporter? It's been thoroughly discussed. Or perhaps you have a new perspective on the topic?

I started a similar thread a while ago in relation to the pricing of the Duet. Admittedly I used an unncessarily inflammatory title which turned it into a bit of a flame war, but a range of viewpoints were aired: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=43128

There's another thread here on European prices that covers much the same ground: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44592

Once you get past the more spurious arguments in support of the pricing differences, it comes down to this: they charge those prices because they can. The good news is that there are a number of local (mainly online) distributors charging a lot less than Logitech. The bad news is that I suspect that not many of them carry the Transporter.

You can buy it in Sydney for around $2500 AUD, mail order too.

I purchased my Bel Canto Pre3 from there, highly recommended service and product knowledge.
