View Full Version : Slim server on W2000 server pegging CPU

2004-02-15, 02:29
I recently installed version 5.1 to W2000 server machine with 500Meg.
RAM & P3 733. It should be serving SlimP3 and Squeezebox.

The problem is that upon the service starting up it appears to work fine
with a rough utilization of 70% during initial scan of library and then
settles down to almost nothing. Without fail when I come back within 24
hours the CPU will be pegged at 100% (or 99%) with the culprit being the
slim service. This happens whether or not I have used one of the players
during the time period after the service was started.

I am also not sure but the network activity seems a bit high as if the
application is constantly trying to do something even when none of the
players are active. This may be normal, but the pegged CPU I am sure is
not.

Please help, since the last version I had installed (5.0.1, I think) did
not stay running as a service and did that thing others have mentioned
where the songs just stop part way through and the next one starts. I
was waiting for this new release to get everything up and running
smoothly, but now I am not sure what to do.....

TIA

Hi TIA,

That shouldn't happen. Is this machine able to access the Internet? I
wonder if it's getting stuck trying to connect to SlimDevices to check
for an update. Try disabling this feature:

Squeezebox Home -> Server Settings -> Behavior -> Software Updates

And let us know if that fixes it for you.
