Hello

First I am not sure if I have the right version, I am being prompted to install a new version?:
"A new version of the SlimServer software is available. Click here to download."

I got my version from http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/ After reading from the following instructions: http://wiki.slimdevices.com/index.cgi?SqueezeCenterRPM I found the same version here: http://repos.slimdevices.com/yum/squeezecenter/release/
I must admit I am a little confused on where do get the latest release?

On install I could not get it to use my own MySQL instance. Easier for backups, etc.. Did we loose this capability?

After a fresh install in a vmware session I changed the configuration file with the following:

dbpassword: slimserver
dbsource: dbi:mysql:database=slimserver
dbusername: slimserver

The configuration vanished after starting SqueezeCenter ??

Note to developer x: you may want to change the following script doc in /etc/rc.d/init.d/squeezecenter:
!/bin/bash
#
# squeezecenter Startup script for the SqueezeCenter Music Server
#
# chkconfig: 345 80 30
# description: SqueezeCenter powers the Squeezebox, Transporter and SLIMP3 network music \
# players and is the best software to stream your music to any software MP3 \
# player. It supports MP3, AAC, WMA, FLAC, Ogg Vorbis, WAV and more!
# processname: squeezecenter
# config: /etc/squeezecenter/squeezecenter.conf
# config: /etc/sysconfig/squeezecenter

# config: /etc/squeezecenter/squeezecenter.conf

Make sure you shut it down _before_ you do the change. Otherwise all
changes will be overwritten when you stop it.

I also had problems getting the prefs to stick. Discussed it a bit in thread:
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=44505

I'm not sure what the logic is for over writing it, or even which is really the right server.prefs, so I'm on a search and destroy to kill server.prefs files that seem to have been left over from some earlier versions, betas, etc.

Thanks Pat

You are right, looked at your post, followed your suggestions and it worked. Sorry for double posting.

Let me recap, the only way I got my configuration not to disapear and have squeezecenter use my database was:

Do the install, stop the service, change the following in server.conf

dbpassword: ''
dbsource: dbi:mysql:hostname=127.0.0.1;port=9092;database=%s
dbusername: slimserver

for

dbsource: dbi:mysql:hostname=127.0.0.1;port=myport;database= mydb (myport: 3306 default for mysql install)
dbname: mydb
dbusername: myuser
dbpassword: mypassword

started the squeezecenter service

And voila quoting Pat 'that much worked, or more properly didn't break'

Thanks again Pat, I love SqueezeCenter(SlimServer) but I also appreciate vmware in these moments.
