Is SC 7 more of a resource hog than 6.3, which I am currently using? I am running from an old Windows laptop, which I am not certain could handle a larger load and still be available for web browsing and email.

I havn't done benchmarks, but I think it actually has a lower load due to the increased use of javascript on the web interface to handle some functions.

I think there have been reports of slowness from people running SC7 on
non-dedicated machines. The shift of processing burden from server to web
browser is not as important if they are running on the same machine. One
way to mitigate this is to use the classic skin instead of the new
browser-buster default. Also using the most modern browser you can that has
a fast javascript engine will help. Opera and FF3 (beta 4 out today) would
be good candidates.

If you really mean 6.3 and not 6.5, then I'd say yes, it will use a bit more memory.

Yes, I'm still using 6.3 because of a change in the 6.5 program that does not remember the state of the player if it has been turned off (actual loss of power) for 20-30 minutes or more. My whole house audio system cuts power to the player when it is cut off, and with 6.3, play automatically resumes when the system is powered on from any room in the house. With 6.5, the player has to be restarted from the remote or web interface. A bug was posted long ago, but the feature was not incorporated into SC 7.
