Hi guys,

I'm new to the slim devices community but post a fair bit in various other hifi forums. I received my SB3 as a Christmas present from my girlfriend and absolutely love it!

Now, being a bit of a tweaker I've been reading up on some things and came across the TNT review for the SB+ which states that the v15 firmware is supposed to be the best in terms of sound. Since I only got my SB3 recently, I have the latest firmware but am keen to try the v15 firmware. The only problem is, I haven't been able to find any software that lets me change my firmware via a Mac.

Any ideas guys?

Many thanks

Lefty

You should be able to do it manually easy enough. Just add the firmware 15 bin file to the firmware folder. Also within the firmware folder is a squeezebox2 version file. Open with an editor (for PC I use notepad) and change the version to 15. It should look like this:

# Squeezebox2 firmware
#
# from to
# from1..from2 to

1..15 15

# future versions may be downgraded to this one
* 15

I don't remember which slimserver version has the firmware 15. I don't have that info at hand. Maybe someone else can jump in. At any rate, I do highly recommend the 15 firmware. Give it a try.

Superb - thanks for that RadioClash.

I'll give it a try when I'm back home from work.

Does anyone know where I can download old firmware versions?

FW 15 for the SB2/3 dates from July 17, 2005.. it's hard to believe
that's really what anyone would want to be running, especially with
SC7. Transporter FW 15 dates from only a year and a half ago, still
probably not what you'd want to run if you have a TP with SC7.

It works! Thanks for the advice RC.

The v15 firmware sounds a touch more vibrant than the v86 I was running previously. A good result :-)

This sounds like one for dean and his magic scope. I'm dubious of this one.

The results are in! One out of two people prefer v15 in blind testing! :-)

A few other tweaks you can experiment with:

-Decode FLAC files on the server side rather than using the onboard decoder

http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39867

-Set the digital output level as fixed in your player settings.

Thanks again RC.

I'm already running the SV with a fixed digital output level, but didn't know about the flac decoding tweak. Will give it a try.
