View Full Version : Double Listings in "Albums"

I have a large number of albums in my collection that for some reason appear twice in the album list- once with "Album Name", then again with "Album Name (Disc 1)".

The albums were ripped with iTunes, and show up as a single album in iTunes, but in SqueezeCenter, some tracks are in each of the two albums.

I don't see any difference in the files that would account for the split (I know if an Artist's name is spelled with an extra space or something, that it will appear as a different "Artist", but that doesn't appear to be the case here)

Any clues?

Thanks!

A common problem I'm afraid. A search of the forum would probably turn up a few related threads. This will undoubtably be a tag issue. iTunes is a bit sneaky and adds its own tags - particularly inserting Disc number tags on compilation albums. I would recommend examining the tags carefully in a program such as MP3Tag - and delete all itunes comments, and disc number (unless you want that!) Also ensure you don't have multiple versions of ID3 tags.
Once you are sure you have clean tags then do a rescan of the library.
Of course if you must use itunes as your library manager you may have to stop it re-writting the tags.

As your library grows it is vitally important to have a single tagging format. If you download much music you'll find a variety of tagging.

Are you using cover art? As a separate filed cover.jpg or is it embedded? If you have BOTH of these then you can end up with duplicate entries.

I use MP3tag to tag my files. When I first started I have thousands of files to fix. Eventually, I cleaned it up and everything shows up like it should.

A general observation..........it seems Itunes is half the problem people have with tags.

Does this mean that I have to go through my entire iTunes library (24,000 songs) and clean each album individually?

Can't this still be caused by having playlists in you main music folder which gets scanned?

I think playlists need to be in a separate folder, or they will get scanned and added to the db as well as the actual files, showing tracks and albums twice. Using SC7 here, so not sre about SS6.5.

Load your music files in a tag program and look at the tags. That is the only way to know for sure.

Personally, I delete ALL tags except the id 3v2 tags.Very simple to do with mp3 tag. Since I use cover.jpg in each folder I also delete ALL embedded cover art.

Cleans tags yield clean results :)

I would do as a previous poster suggested. Remove the the playlists. Rescan and see it the problem goes away.
