Hi all,

Can anyone tell me how I can install two instances of SlimServer at the same time, or rather one of Slimserver 6.5.4 and one of 7?

I have a fully installed/configured 6.5.4 installation, and I want to test 7 in parallel without messing up my existing installation.

TIA,
Chris.

Have a think about VirtualBox. you could have another complete ubuntu install on it with squeezecenter 7.

Just a thought - if you're using the same squeezebox (or squeezeboxes),
won't they need different firmware for 6.x versus 7.x, and have to be
updated every time you switch?

You most likely can copy the files from the SC7 Firmware directory to the 6.5.4 installation without screwing things up. Make backups of the 6.5.4 files though.

An alternative to using any sort of VM is to run the SC7 trunk or branch code directly from an svn download. I've got parallel installs of SC7 branch via yum and SC7 trunk via svn. The two services are named "squeezecenter" and "squeezecenter_trunk" and I have no trouble switching back and forth between the two. At the moment, they're even sharing the same mysql db.
