I have set up the SB using a desktop with XP Pro, a Linksys WRT54G wireless router and an external hard drive for the music directory. It all works great.

Now I would like to include my laptop, with Vista Home, into the system.

Problem 1: I installed Slimserver on the laptop but it does not find the SB.

Problem 2: How do I tell Slimserver, assuming I get the first problem solved, to look for the music on an external hard drive connected to the desktop?

Surely this can be done, but how?

So, why did you install Slimserver on the laptop?

If the music is on an external hard drive attached to your PC, the PC will have to be running for the files to be accessible - so you may as well just run slimserver there and nowhere else.

If you want to be able to control it from the laptop, just open up a browser on the laptop and point it at http://<slimserver-ip-address>:9000

On the other hand if I've missed something then please try again!!

As stated by ceejay, you don't need Slimserver installed on the laptop. You only need one copy installed on the desktop PC.

The Squeezebox is not designed to talk to more than one Slimserver at a time, but it can be switched manually between servers by pressing left for 5 seconds to go into network setup.
