Hello,
Can someone please explain to me why exactly one needs a slimdevices remote i.e jive to setup a sd receiver? For me being blind it would be all right to control the receiver via Squeezecenter for a start. Never using the display or the ir remote anyway. And it is a far better price. ;)

Well, and then I just wanted to point out for it is an official site. There are two typos in specs page for the receiver. I am not a native speaker and normally wouldn't opt to correct :
--- snipp ---
Squeezbox Controller required for network setup
Windows: 733Mhz Pentium running Window 2000/XP/Vista
--- Snipp ---

Right that is all for now.
Cheers
Jay

The controller is needed for setup because the receiver has no screen - without that you can't tell it things like the WEP/WPA key or select options such as DHCP/static IP. Once it's on the network it can be fully controlled by SqueezeCenter.

There have been (strong) rumors that the requirement for the controller may be removed in the future, so if that's a big deal for you it may be worth waiting a little while to see what happens in that regard (as I understand it there are some technical issues which need figuring out). You could of course also buy the duet and once setup, sell the controller. I'd be nervous about doing that unless the controller was no longer needed - you never know when you might need to do a factory reset!

Once you've setup up the controller it knows everything about your
wireless configuration. This information can be transfered to the Receiver
without having to enter everything in some form again. Using a web
interface you'd have to do this twice.

I'll forward it to our web guy.

If you join us at https://slimdevices.campfirenow.com/room/48940 you'll
see that a community member is already working hard on a plugin which
should be able to configure a SBR.
