If you're having trouble with remote streaming to XMMS, I've opened a
bug on their bugzilla. Check it out, add info, vote for it.

thanks,

Are you still having a problem with XMMS (even with 1.2.10)? On my
Fedora Core 1 box, I get skips whenever I play anything using remote
streaming (although server and XMMS are on the same box), and I'm
wondering if I should downgrade... I've tried using the freshest
nightlies of the slimserver, but still no joy. Tracks play with no
problem in XMMS directly, and also fine on my SliMP3.

Thanks
Martin

sorry, I gave up trying to get it to work. I used Zinf for a while and
tried softsqueeze a few times, now I just listen to my iriver instead.

I'm streaming to xmms without any problem (as I type this even.)
I had some problems with it skipping from about the time 5.1.3 hit
until just a couple weeks ago when someone submitted a patch. (5.1.5
is still broken I suspect, but latest nightlies work fine) For what
it's worth, that particular problem wasn't xmms specific (zinf and
mpg123 skipped as well).

I'm currently running...
slimserver may 5th (cvs checkout, but a nightly should work the same)
xmms 1.2.10

hope that helps

FWIW, I just upped to 5/10 nightly and my XMMS skipping problem is also
gone. However, I had to blow away the included Time::HiRes...

Starting SliMP3 server
Time::HiRes object version 1.59 does not match bootstrap parameter
01.010101 at /usr/lib/perl5/5.8.4/i686-linux/DynaLoader.pm line 253.
Compilation failed in require at /home/slimserver/slimserver.pl line 91.
BEGIN failed--compilation aborted at /home/slimserver/slimserver.pl line
91.

roy@mesmer etc $ cat /etc/gentoo-release
Gentoo Base System version 1.4.11

'emerge -Du world' just this morning.

Finally managed to find some time to sort this problem. I should have said that the skipping was
happening when I tried any software player (XMMS, Winamp, Windows Media Player, RealJukebox etc) but
that the latest nightly has indeed fixed the problem. I'm wondering if Fedora Core 1 came with a
dubious Time::HiRes...

Anyway, thanks again for the prompt support!
