I have installed the debian package - Jan 13/14 build on Ubuntu 7.10 and everything seems ok. I started it using: sudo /etc/init.d/squeezecenter/ start it says starting and no error message. In firefox with localhost:/9000 it just says waiting. The player recognizes the server but the menus are circular - ie artist > artist > artist

I have bee able to log in with firefox in the past but I can't now. I have stopped and retarted rebooted uninstalled and reinstalled and no go. I'vee looked at the logconf file and I'm not sure what to look for

Any sugggestions for what to do next?

Is the forward slash a typo?
localhost:9000

I use also Ubuntu 7.10 with Squeezecenter from the unstable repository (deb http://debian.slimdevices.com unstable main
) and everything works fine atm, but I also did have problems after some updates and manual fiddling from my side. My error was to manually erase/move some files installed via adept, something I shouldn't have done, but I could solve this by purging (caution! deletes slimserver configuration files) the Squeezecenter package and then doing a clean reinstall.

sudo apt-get purge slimserver
sudo apt-get install slimserver

Bye, signor_rossi.

I seem to be up and running with Ubuntu 7.10 and SC7. My player can select songs and play but sometimes it reverts to circular menus. I can use Moose to show the songs but I can not use play from Moose. It is ignored. My symptoms are;

1. can not access SC7 with the web interface localhost:9000 - it just hangs at waiting for localhost

2. Moose does not connect with the Mysql database - it says unable to accesss it can scan the directory. Also Moose play commands are not recognised.

3. Pandora works for a while then stops.

4. Can't tell if IRBlaster pluggin is recognised because I can't access the web interface but I don't think it is

I know this is a number of things but I thought someone might have a suggestion

Signor Rossi,

Isn't the latest package squeezecenter? The package name and installation folders and service has changed.

M.

Seems you are right. Didn't notice and still installed slimserver (also a 7.0x version though).

Bye, signor_rossi.

For all those looking for a way to prevent their Squeezecenter s7.x from going into standby whilst players are running I have cooked-up half a solution. The trick is to call the inhibit / unhibit methods in the gnome-power-manager. Unfortunately this solution only supports machines that run Gnome. I think dbus is also available on KDE so I guess the same approach can be ported.

But CYJ, this solution still needs some serious debugging and I have absolutely no idea what I am doing!!!

Credits go to several existing sources: 1) The existing PreventStandby plugin that comes standard with the windows version and 2) the example from the gnome-power-manager wiki which unfortunately is in python but clearly demonstrates what needs to be done. Hopefully someone will pick up what I have started and finish it. At the moment the systemcalls to dbus fail probably because of improper access rights???

Note: Plug-ins for Squeezecenter live in /usr/share/squeezecenter/Plugins/. If no such directory exists create one and copy the entire zip file to that location. Restart Squeezecenter and voila the plugin is where is should be.

Good luck.
