Hi,

I have bought a few SqueezeBox units, and plan to use them in a controlled environment. I want to serve music from Windows Media Server, but want to monitor/log which songs each Squeezebox plays. Is there any way to do it? Through some authentication? Or IP tracking?

Thanks

I'm not familiar with "Windows Media Server". Keep in mind you need SlimServer/SqueezeCenter in order to use the Squeezeboxes. If Windows Media Server is an OS, then you can run SS/SC on it, but if it's just a program it won't work.

You can track which songs play through the LastFM or SlimScrobbler plugins.

thanks for the response,

Windows Media Server is nothing more than a web server in its simplest form. The SqueezeBox supports playing an mp3 from the network by giving it a URL like http://mymusic.com/song.mp3, or am I wrong? Does it only play lists through SlimServer?

My concern is, I want to put my music in a Public IP, but want to restrict access to authorized SqueezeBoxes. Is there any way to do that?

Thanks

It does need some sort of server at all times. If you don't want to use SS/SC, you can use SqueezeNetwork (a publicly-accessible SS) provided the stream URL is publicly-accessible.

Trivially easy with SS/SC, currently not possible with SN. Also SN does not currently run LastFM or SlimScrobbler.
