Mine is ~57000 files.

I used to hear regular audio stutters on my SliMP3, and the web interface
would often "hang" - causing the SliMP3 to die completely. This interface
"hanging" was completely repeatable when browsing by artist. This was all
when my media server had only 256Mb RAM. I upgraded recently (it now has a
little over 1Gb of RAM) and all those problems have gone away.

My media server is:

* Windows 2000
* AthlonXP 2200+
* 1152Mb RAM
* 780Gb HDD
* SlimServer 5.0.3,
supporting SliMP3 v2.2 and SqueezeBox v6.

MP3 Tag Cache is enabled (and is about 16Mb).

It may be important to note that other than some video streaming, my media
server does nothing else but serve MP3s. Also, my library is split 4 deep,
thus:

Letter\Artist\Album\Tracks

For instance:

a\Air\Everybody Hertz\..tracks
\Moon Safari\...tracks
f\Fatboy Slim\Everybody Needs a 303\...tracks
\You've Come a Long Way, Baby\...tracks
....and so on!

I'm not sure if this structure makes a difference in scanning times.

> Any thoughts or ideas,

Only one: RAM! And that's because it was suggested to me on this list and
made a huge difference in my SliMP3 experience.

Good luck!

All the best,
Howard

Thanks for the info.

Lack of memory as the cause is piling up...
