View Full Version : Encoding while playing music

I'm experiencing skipping in the playout of music while I'm encoding MP3s with CDex 1.51 at the same time. Is there a way to prevent this behavior (non-hardware related) or should I just not do both at the same time? Playing music when not encoding works as expected with no skipping or dropouts.

Nothing else significant is running at the same time.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

G

AMD 1.2Mhz Duron
756MB RAM
Win2K - Kept up to date
SlimServer 5.01
(Can't think of the firmware version off the top of my head)

Not surprising. Encoding is a CPU hog. I see 85-90% usage when I'm
encoding (lame -preset extreme).

Just avoid doing both or rip to wav and schedule a batch encode while
you're sleeping. :)

The SlimServer software is probably starved for CPU while you are
encoding.

You might try increasing the process priority to High using the Task
Manager and see if that improves the overall performance.
