After sticking with 6.2.2 for my 1 SB1, 3 SB2s and 1 SB3 I have finally purchased a Nokia N800 and want to take advantage of the Touch Skin (is that the correct name). So I have a few questions, if anyone would care to advise:

1.Should I go straight to SC7, I have dabbled with it on another PC. I run run Slimserver on a dedicated, XP Home PC with 500MB memory and a 2.6GHZ processor.

2.Whatever I go for should I delete the current installation of Slimserver rather than installing over it.

3.Is accessing the touch skin as simple as typing http://127.0.0.1:9000/touch/ as the URL?

Has anyone any other advise they can offer on the process.

Thanks.

6.2.2 to SC7 is a large jump.

The database backend of SlimServer changed from SQLite to MySQL in 6.5.x, this increased the memory requirements on systems. You might want tothink about upping that 512MB of RAM in your server

Personally I would try SC7 and if you have any problems, report the bugs and help the developers iron them out. SC7 is very close to being finished so it is a very mature beta now.

EDIT: and yes, it is as easy as using that URL :)

I have finally purchased a Nokia N800 and want to take advantage of the Touch Skin (is that the correct name).

though it's kind of archaically named now, you actually want to use the Nokia770 skin on your N800.

Nokia770 skin has stylesheet parameters to specifically format for the 800x480 screen of the Nokia tablet family (770, 800, 810). If your screen is this size, this is your skin.

Touch inherits most of its code from the nokia770 skin, but has a less restrictive stylesheet and formats nicer on PC browsers. Touch also has numerous tweaks to accomodate the hunk-of-junk known as Internet Explorer.

also, 127.0.0.1 is not the IP address to use when accessing your SqueezeCenter/SlimServer from the N800. You need to find out the LAN IP address of your server and use that instead. On home servers, this is often something like 192.168.1.2. Thus, if that was your IP, the URL would be http://192.168.1.2:9000/Nokia770/

I'm currently using SlimServer 6.5.3. I use the Nokia 770 skin with my Nokia N800. Everything works fine. Is there any advantage in running the Nokia 770 skin on SqueezeCenter as opposed to my current version of SlimServer?

In general, if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Wait until you need some cool feature.

This is a run-down of "what you're missing", as far as the skin goes:

there are a lot of other new things in SqueezeCenter 7.0 as well:
