Hi,

When Slim Server development planning was in its infancy what was the
reasoning of using PERL instead of PHP? Was it a technical decision or
resource based issue?

This is just me being curious of the Slim Servers background.

Cheers :)

The choice of Perl was an historical accident. Sean put together the
first SLIMP3 Server in perl after he built the first batch of SLIMP3s.
I decided to join in and help with the software and decided that
instead of rewriting it in C, I'd take the opportunity to learn Perl.

Perl has served us well (lots of Perl modules to use, cross platform
ease, lots of people know it), but for performance needs we may end up
moving some of the code to C in the near future.

If by that you mean it was entirely deliberate and fortunate decision,
then yes, I'd agree. :)
