Does the quality of the PC sound card have anything to do with playback through the SB3.

Cheers

Not unless you are using the PC sound card.
The SqueezeBox is a wireless replacement for a sound card.

No, in fact it's one of the reasons I got the Sb3. It really simplifies things not having to worry about Windows sound mixers, system sounds being played on the stereo, length of cable from sound card to stereo, the electromechanical noise in the server, or the quality of the sound card.

I already had a sound card with optical output, but it was much easier to buy and attach a Sb3 to the DAC than messing with all of the above.

Actually you CAN use the sound card in a desktop PC while simultaneously serving music to the Sb3, and it still won't affect the sound in any way.

And it's not really a replacement for a sound card, e.g. you can't monitor a mix from a sound editing application, or have it announce that "you've got mail", on your stereo.
