All,

I have an SSH authentication question for any of the experts out there.

I have SSH set up on my windows XP server at home and I am streaming to softsqueeze at work ... this works great and was very easy to set up. I was wondering about authentication options available in SSH.

I have it set up today using Password-Based authentication and I am wondering if this is as secure as it should be. Is the password encrypted when softsqueeze authenticates to the SSH service or should I set up Public Key Based Authentication. Is Public Key Based Authentication any more secure?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can share and Happy Holidays.

Yes

Is Public Key Based Authentication any more secure?

It can be if you choose weak passwords since it is not susceptible to brute-force or guessing attacks. Otherwise, IMO it's just a matter of which you personally protect better, your password or your private key.
