I just posted instructions for installing SlimServer (6.5.4) on an AppleTV. You can find my instructions at http://blog.gruby.com/2007/11/25/installing-slimserver-on-an-appletv/. If anyone has questions, please let me know. The coolest thing about the AppleTV is that it is super quiet; I actually don't use it for its other features and just turned it back on to run SlimServer.

Cool, you should post the contents of your blog (and link to original) to wiki.slimdevices.com.

It's also worth mentioning this in the 3rd party hardware forum if you haven't already. Nice work!

I'll post to the wiki and the 3rd party hardware forum. Thanks!

Very nice. I may actually get one now.

I was also wondering about the viability of getting slimserver running on an iPhone/iTouch. It certainly would be a quiet and low power server if you had a small library.

I noticed that there is a perl implementation for iPhone but I'm not sure how complete it is.

I'm guessing MySQL would be more of problem.

P.S. I wonder if the Inguz plug-in would work on the AppleTV. The CPU may not quite be fast enough. (I believe it's a 1Ghz single core pentium M).

Inguz consumed constantly about 50% processing power after an initial spike at track start on my old Pentium IV 2.4 GHZ (equivalent to 1.6-1.8 GHz Peentium M?) with some treble/bass adjustments only, so probably AppleTV is to weak.
A question, how is format support on AppleTV? Does it play Matroska H264 (720p) files?

Bye, signor_rossi.
