I can't get SS 6.5.4 to recognize the GENRE tag in vorbis comments. Ideally, I'd like to be able to set it for each track in the FLAC file, if possible. I've tried GENRE[1]=Classic Rock, GENRE[2]=Classic Rock, etc. but when I search by Genre, the album shows up as 'No Genre'. I've also tried the global tags GENRE=Classic Rock and DGENRE=Classic Rock, but I get the same thing 'No Genre'.

I'm using metaflac 1.2.1 to set the tags, however the file was encoded with 1.1.2, which I don't think should be a problem.

I've also tried clearing the database and rescanning, as I've had problems with SS not picking up all the changed files since the last scan. That didn't work either.

If anyone has this working, I'd really appreciate it if could list your working METADATA block.

Here's my current tags block.

Rather than using "stacked" comments, you can try embedding a cue sheet file. This reliably works for me. This allows specifying genre, artist, composer, comment, etc. metadata not only for the album level, but for the track level too. The only downside I've experienced with embedded cues is that I've needed to stick with fb2k 8.3 as the pc flac player, as it's forgiving with non-compliant cuesheets. And SC7, in the most recent nightlies, reads my embedded cuesheets perfectly.

Thanks gharris999.

However, I'd really like to figure out what the appropriate tags are for genre. Using embedded cue sheets will be my last resort.

Have you tried the version 0.7 windows squeezeslave binary? It plays flac files served from Slimserver without a hitch.
