View Full Version : Asus Eee as SS 'Remote'

Hi All,

Firstly, this should probably be in '3rd Party Hardware' but I'm hoping this post won't annoy users of this forum too much...

I'm really taken with the Eee and would envisage using it as a 'to hand' internet access device and also as a cool control device for SS (fondly imagines casually picking up sleek device to control music selection in front of awe-struck friends).

Questions are, has anyone used the Eee as described above?

Is it just a question of navigating to SS URL over Wi-Fi and taking it from there?

Will I have to use one of the Nokia skins (Eee screen res = 800 x 480) or would a browser like Opera handle the default SS interface?

Any advice, thoughts would be much appreciated...

Thanks

Have you seen http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=39860

I don't think anyone's used it yet, it's too new.

FWIW, That's the exact resolution of the Nokia Tablet, so the Nokia770 skin would render beautifully in that environment (given it runs a modern browser). Looks pretty cool, I've never seen the Eee before (should that name be shouted in a high-pitched squeal? EEE!!!!)

cheers,

It's available (in black!!) on Expansys for 350 approx (I'm in Ireland).

I'm sooo close to reaching for the plastic.

Would love to hear others experiences but maybe I'll be the first?!

Looks cute, would probably work well enough as a SB remote (with
softsqueeze?). Pity it doesn't have bluetooth to use my 3.5G phone to
access the net on the road and the battery life is not that great...

I prefer the white. No I don't own any apple products :-)
Will probably be buying one next year, don't think I need the larger screen, higher capacity memory or storage.

You could use a USB Bluetooth dongle.

I'm this close to ordering a 4G at 220. The only thing holding me back is the imminent launch of the 8G.
