Great link, thanks. The main trouble I've had in this area before has been support for various different ACPI implementations etc. I have a virtualised Shuttle box in which my SlimServer lives but it won't play ball; I think the ACPI is broken in the BIOS/motherboard.

I'm using 'cpufreq' utils on linux. My 2.6Ghz P4 runs at a measly 325Mhz and runs 'ondemand' to ramp only when needed. This way I can have the hardware that supports all my needs but save energy whenever possible.

Rather than have other comments suggesting low power hardware keep in mind my last sentence from the first paragraph. I have a need for things like 64bit PCI, multiple serial ports, and more.
