I'm still experiencing a problem I've had for a while whereby the SB3 doesn't always respond to the remote. It will sometimes go down 3 or 4 menu levels and then not respond for another 30 seconds. I've replaced the remote batteries and I'm sure it's not waiting for the server to bring the disks up to speed.

Could it be the remote itself that's not playing? The device seems to come in for universal condemnation in these forums.

It's got to the stage where nobody else has the patience to use it and I'm thinking of going to a media-centre type PC instead.

Thanks for input.

In my experience, a lack of response usually means the server is busy. If this continues, it means the server has its memory bogged down and needs a reboot to restore a good response.

..but it seems unlikely to me. The server doesn't do much else whenever I'm not actually using it interactively...and I'm not when I'm using the SB. The server has been rebooted a few times in the past week but I haven't noticed any correlation in performance.

The other symptom of laziness is that the SB will sometimes just stop playing and go back to the stopped screensaver. Pressing play causes it to restart where it left off.

What you're describing smacks of network issues. Check the quality of your network connectivity using the Network Test plugin. Are you on wireless?

Ah well, I am on wireles (the server is wired to the switch) but once it's streaming (flac) it's generally perfect - never any stutters just the occasional full stop.

lyteroptes, I get the same thing: No punctuation; just the occasional full stop.

lyteroptes - I'm also on the same setup, and get the same issue - in my case it's related to running any form of Torrent software. I suspect my crappy BT Home Hub either can't cope with the number of open connections or limits these to keep VoIP available.

No torrents, no problems, for me, anyway, at least under Vista. When I was running XP I would also get the "Stopped" symptom. When these started occurring on *SoftSqueeze* I upgraded :-)

I retired the SB3 to the bedroom as others just couldn't work it with these silly pauses.

It's wired there but still the same stalling behaviour. No torrents or P2P on my network.

Could it be that it is trying to load and cache the filenames/paths?
I noticed some lag the first time I hit a really big directory (i.e. on e with many files in it).
Maybe create an empty (or near-empty) directory at the level the other ones seem to "stick" and see if it loads any faster.
