Does the Jive hardware have a microphone?

Needn't be anything special. A cheap omni mic, ADC and smallish buffer...

There are pins on the expansion connector on the bottom for analog
input that feed into the built-in ADC, though. They aren't enabled
in software at this point.

It does not.

Pity - it would make a *stunning* handheld RTA / measurement device.

Agreed, that would be great, but we didn't have the time/space/money
to put everything in there.

That said, it's probably only a couple of dollars/euros worth of
electronics to add if somebody is interested in building a little
board for that connector.

I'm sure I'll go "doh" when you tell me, but why is there an ADC? Is it used for at all in the current hardware?

It was essentially free with the DAC we chose.

Not right now.

Aaah, not so "doh" then. I can imagine somebody coming up with some interesting applications, though, with a microphone..... like a telecom system - I can see it now, me on the 3rd floor, speaking into my Jive, to announce via the SB way downstairs, "Honey, could you bring me a beverage in a tall frosty glass, please?" Hmmmm, yum.

To make that work in my house I'd need to make changes to more things
than my remote.

Hee hee, sorry to hear that - I am blessed in some respects!
