Take a look at the AudioSource Amp One/A, one of the best basic amps for the money. I too am a Russound user, I have the ABus system which runs over Cat5 to four zones. Yes, I did have to pull wire, but with the assistance of a an experienced person, we pulled four zones without many issues.

Just a suggestion, before buying multiple slimdevices, have an electrician or someone experienced with pulling wire review your situation and determine how difficult/easy it would be. I found companies that install security systems are experts at pulling wire and quite reasonable on cost, better than electricians. Your going to invest alot of many for just two zones with multiple slimdevices and separate amps, whereas with a little extra effort you could get 2-3 times the zones for the same cost, plus a more manageable system setup.

The Russound still looks like it would require wiring your whole house for
the system. I didn't want to deal with this so I have a wireless squeeze
upstairs on the bedroom stereo and a slimp3 downstairs on the home theater.

You absolutely need to look at the Russound solution. You would only
need 1 Slimp3. The money you save not buying "many" slimps could got
toward a very robust whole house audio system that can play many sources
AND blast your IR signals. I bought my system on E-Bay for a reasonable
price.

Is there a reason you are not considering this option?

I had previously envisioned a whole house audio system with many slimp's
each with powered speakers. However, I am finding out that the choice
in
powered speakers is very limited.

Is there a small amplifer with audio in/out alternative that works well?
Looking around, it seems you can't buy an amp w/o a receiver these days.

Eric - thanks for the advice. I will check into it. Is there a Russound
newsgroup?
