You absolutely need to look at the Russound solution. You would only
need 1 Slimp3. The money you save not buying "many" slimps could got
toward a very robust whole house audio system that can play many sources
AND blast your IR signals. I bought my system on E-Bay for a reasonable
price.

Is there a reason you are not considering this option?

Subject: [slim] powered speaks or small amp?

I had previously envisioned a whole house audio system with many slimp's
each with powered speakers. However, I am finding out that the choice
in
powered speakers is very limited.

Is there a small amplifer with audio in/out alternative that works well?
Looking around, it seems you can't buy an amp w/o a receiver these days.

Thanks,

The wires are the main obstacle for me, and I was under the impression that
analog audio solutions are more expensive. Perhaps a comparison is in order
for a typical implementation.

I do have 3 floors that I'd like to have music in - some of the rooms have
CAT5 for ethernet, but not the upper level.
