View Full Version : Simple Questions

Hi all,

I have been lurking around this and the Audiotron group for a while
getting a feel for the devices. I was leaning toward the Squeezebox
(mainly due to some of the cool geeky plugin things people are doing),
but I was waiting to see what Turtle Beach would do with the much hyped
Mediatron. It turns out they didn't do much.

Anyway I did post one question before and didn't get an answer... I also
have questions that I have seen other people asking and some vague
answers that it may be possible, so I am going to ask them and would
like a yes/no answer. I can figure out the details after I get the unit.

1: I am currently thinking about the Squeezebox as my leap away from my
fully packed Sony CD changers. I have a horrible tendency to put my
whole collection on shuffle and skip 9 out of every 10 songs. This works
great on my iPod, but the 10 second delay and mechanical whirring of my
CD changers is annoying. My question is if I do a lot of skipping on the
squeezebox (possibly 10 or more skips one after the other) will there be
delay, and if so how long will it be between hitting the next track
button and the next track starting to play...

2: Can I play the BBC Radio 1 live audio feed? Can I play the 'Listen
Again' streams. They are both Real Audio. I have been following the
recent Real Audio thread, but the answer still seems to be a little
vague. Can somebody actually try it and say yes...

3: Can I play WMA files? Not that I really want to.

4: Can I play WMA DRM files? Again I don't really want to.

5: Can I play Windows Media Streams e.g. the stream at capitalfm.com?

5: Can I play AAC files? I DO want to.

6: Can I play AAC DRM files, specifically purchased from iTunes? I do
want to do this.

Again I know that these questions are covered in a number of places etc.
But I would really appreciate simple straight forward answers where
possible.

Thanks,

James

less than 1 second. varies depending on network connection and server speed.

real audio does't work yet. its in the works. The vague answer is an option,
but I'm sensing that it might be something you are not going to want to attempt
just yet.
