Ever since I installed the last few weeks' builds of v6.5.3 I keep on
getting a scanner.exe error and cannot fully have my collection scanned.
The error comes up after a few thousand songs with only about 20% done.
This happens to both the "new song scans" and also "clean and re-scan"
scans.

I'm running Windows XP on a Pentium 4 - and did not have any problems
with previous builds and versions of SlimServer in this respect
Any advise will be appreciated.

Make sure Slimserver is running. Then run the following command from the command prompt (assuming scanner.exe is in default directory) and replacing <musicfolder> by your own music folder.
The output should show files as they are scanned and hence the problem files.

"c:\program files\slimserver\server\scanner.exe" --wipe --d_scan --d_import <musicfolder>

I have the same problem.
Does anyone know how to get this information under Linux?
The scanner doesn't tell me which file it was processing when the error occurred.

I haven't coded any Perl since 1996, maybe it's time to pick up the old camel book once more...

/usr/local/slimserver/scanner.pl --d_import --d_scan --wipe /path/to/music

add --logfile /path/to/mylog

if you want to record the info for later review

If you have MP3 files in your library, it may be this bug:

http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=5166

http://bugs.slimdevices.com/show_bug.cgi?id=3972

It's been fixed in the latest nightlies.

I found the problem, it was the "multiple ALBUMARTIST tags" bug.
I was looking at the wrong files, when running the scanner as suggested by kdf it was a lot easier finding the problem.

Also I guess I shold have mentioned that I'm using Debian
so the path to the scanner are a bit different but I found it at:
/usr/sbin/slimserver-scanner

Thank you!

bpa, thanks for your suggestion on scanner.exe error. I found the
problematic files and corrected the issue. Seems that others might also
encounter due to some file names using other language systems that the
host OS might not support and this results in an error.
