View Full Version : Best Audio Jukebox for Flac

I was wondering what people on this forum believe to be the best audio jukebox for playing flac files. I don't like using softsqueeze, becuase it doesn't lay out the library in a good visual way, the way that Windows Media Player does, including artwork, etc. Optimally it would be a jukebox that could not only detect flac files, but would also include the artwork metadata. I don't believe that WMP11 can do this. Also, one that would automatically update additions to the library.

Any suggestions?

MusicIP Mixer will do what you want. Also has some cute integrations available with slimserver as a bonus.

Alternatively foobar2000 but be prepared to have to work to customise the UI.

Tried winamp?

Give Moose a spin, it should fit the bill for some of the features you're after http://www.rusticrhino.com/drlovegrove/.

If you like WMP, I thought there were plugins to allow it to read Flac files.

Thanks. There are plugins to allow WMP to read flac files, but for some reason it won't organize most of my collection--it simply shows the tracks as "Unknown Artist". Not sure why, but seems to happen randomly.

Thanks to everyone for the suggestions.

Tried Moose, and it does just what i'm looking for. Is there a way to get it to automatically launch softsqueeze when it starts, or does it have to be done manually? Also, I've seen posts here about the subject of mass acquisition of missing artwork. Does anyone know of a method other than Album Art Aggregator, which doesn't work anymore?

Currently it's got to be done manually, although it should be quite easy to
make a .bat file that launches softsqueeze, then launches Moose. I'm
about to add a few command-line options in Moose, so I'll see if I can
add one for softsqueeze.

Moose can currently lookup the now playing album artwork on amazon. I'm
planning to extend this at some point to run through the whole library. It may
be a few months off yet though, and probably wont automatically write it
back to the server..

In the meantime, check out Pat Farrell's excellent music utils:

I've also used this guy in the past:

Yeah, WMP can be setup for playing FLAC audio. But it wont read the tags at all, so no library management and you might as well have WAV files.

I use Foobar, other than that i would suggest Winamp, but winamp's UI is too much for me.
