View Full Version : What role does MusicIP Mixer's library play for SlimServer?

I was just wondering how SlimServer and MusicIP Mixer fit together.

A few times lately I've updated tags or added to my collection and found that no matter what I do SlimServer won't pick up the changes or additions until MusicIP has. This entails running up the application, waiting for it to finish the scan and saving the library cache - the headless version of MusicIP doesn't seem to be very good at keeping on top of the contents of my music folders.

This is all basically fine, but I've forgotten to do this enough times now and done enough head-scratching before I've remembered to fire up the MusicIP front-end to make me ask the question:

Does SlimServer use MusicIP's database directly?

yes, the data is imported and merged with any other data sources,
including music folder scan.

so it does this automatically if you have the MusicIP plugin installed? But you also have to have MusicIP running? Is that right?

Thanks

MusicIP must be running when slimserver starts.
You must also have the "use musicmagic" radio button checked in server settings for the importer and mixer to be enabled.

MusicIP must be running when slimserver starts.

I was under the impression that this doesn't apply to MusicIP running in its headless state. Previously there had to be a dependency between the two services to ensure that SlimServer only started up once MusicIP was running, but I don't think that's required any longer.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems to behave fine on my system with this setup (i.e. none!).

SlimServer doesn't know whether MIP is running as an application or a
service (headless). It just tries to connect to port 10002 - if it can't
it will disable MIP integration. MIP therefore has to run before you start
SlimServer, whatever mode you're using for MIP.
