View Full Version : Delays from Amazon UK

I ordered a black wireless squeezebox from amazon.co.uk on 31 March. It's been delayed twice and still hasn't arrived. The latest estimate is 16-25 May, though I have lost confidence that it will arrive in that time.

Has anyone else experienced this problem? It's hardly possible to believe it takes 7 weeks to get one of these boxes from the US to the UK.

My plan is to wait until 25 May (when I'll no doubt get another 'delayed' email notice), then ask amazon what is happening. And presumably then cancel my order and get it from somewhere else.

Cheers,

Rob

I'd highly recommend ecodigital (http://www.ecodigital.co.uk/estore/index.php?manufacturers_id=9&main_page=index)... but it appears that they're completely out of stock too! :-O

(I have no connection to Ecodigital, of course)

I have had a black SB3 on order from Multi-task computing since 13 March. So I don't think it is just Amazon. However Multi-task are less than good at keeping me informed.....
I fear we are awaiting the new "logitech" branded SB3's from production to come over - I had ordered deliberately in the hope to avoid that very possibility....

Ah, okay, thanks. Then it's not just Amazon. That does make me feel a little better.

Guess I'll stick with Amazon then...

Scan.co.uk have stock of the White wireless SB3 (obviously SD were right to drop it, doesn't look to be that popular), but the all black one is OOS.

(other than being a regular customer, i have no connection to Scan)

My order for an SB3 all black from Amazon, made on 22 April, has now been delayed with an estimated delivery date of 23 May - 2 June.

As I understand it, the delay in the UK shipment (not just Amazon but all UK retailers) is due to the re-branding. Once the new Logitech SB3s are released they'll come back into the UK. I'd guess towards the end of May, early June.

Let's hope they are just rebranding the outside, not the inside. I didn't know about this Logitech rebranding until it was pointed out earlier in this thread. A bit of investigation afterwards showed some people are worried that the component quality will suffer. Is that a valid point of view, or just scaremongering?

My, wholly uninformed, view is that it wouldn't be cost-effective to begin replacing the internals of the SB3 right now; the R&D costs would outweigh the returns considering that (and here's another rumour) the next generation is just round the corner. Then would be the time to begin using Logitech's buying power to source new components.

I notice Amazon UK have now changed the availability of the SB3 to just say "available from these sellers" - i.e., not from Amazon itself. Clicking on the link tells you that someone called "ripcaster" has 1 new SB3 - that's it.

dabs.com says "due in 1-2 weeks", but this is the first time I looked at it, so it might have said that for months.

Is it the case that someone in the US can order one of these and get it within a day or two, whereas it's taking months to get to the UK?

This is bizarre. Is there anyone connected with SD/Logitech reading this who can say exactly what's happening? My patience is running out...

If you check the following link you'll see a Logitech Branded Squeezebox.....

http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/speakers_audio/wireless_music_systems/devices/881&cl=gb,en

Curiously it looks like a Photoshop job at the moment though.

However it does fit with the 'White Sale' and the lack of Black stock.

My Amazon.co.uk order (placed on 22 April, and originally delayed until end of May) now has an expected delivery of end of July!

Is there anywhere in the UK (or Europe) that has all black SB3s in stock?

I got my SB3 (black) last year from Ripcaster - I found Jon Nelson there exceedingly helpful.

Showing as In Stock at the moment, but there is a contact Tel. No. on the website :

You could try these chaps:
http://www.broadbandbuyer.co.uk/Shop/ShopDetail.asp?ProductID=3936

ETA w/c 28th May... so potentially they're in the same boat, but another supplier to chase up with.

I don't read these forums every day, but has there been any statement from anyone connected with the company where they've said, "yes, there are big delays in Europe due to such-and-such a reason"? If not, why not? Surely a reason that causes a two month delay (mine was ordered on 31st March) warrants some kind of statement. If it's due to manufacturing delays of a Logitech-branded box, then just tell us. Are we talking approximately June, July, August, December? 2008? When? Could someone from the company please say something about it?

I'm really looking forward to getting this box, and I'm sure I'll love it when (if) it arrives.

ripcaster.co.uk have just shipped mine, after waiting several months and watching the dates constantly slip all over the place I'm now looking forward to playing with this from Monday.

Perhaps you can cancel it from Amazon, i'm cancelling mine.

Okay, thanks. I've just ordered one from ripcaster.co.uk. Let's see how long this one takes!

I'll cancel my Amazon order, unless I decide I need one in two different rooms.

Unbelievable. I order one from ripcaster, and 25 minutes later I get an email from ripcaster saying it's shipped. It's in Reading (I'm in Swindon) and is due to be delivered to me on Monday.

Amazon, what the heck have you been doing for the past two months?

There's really no reason for there being a delay. We have been transitioning to Logitech-branded Squeezeboxes, but have continued to ship Slim Devices-branded versions without interruption.

As you've seen, there are units available in the UK, so I really don't understand why Amazon can't supply. I've asked our Area Sales Manager for the UK to contact Amazon and resolve why they don't have stock.

There was a long period (at least 4 weeks) when the UK importer couldn't get any SB3s and didn't seem to know what was going on. A email I sent to Slim took over two weeks to even get a reply, and didn't provide any information other than what JimC says above (ie there shouldn't be a problem - even though there obviously was!).

I suspect a lot of UK suppliers have simply given up placing orders from SB3s and are steering customers to other more readily available products.

Shame really.

Jim, thanks for your reply. Reading the responses in this thread from others in the UK it's obvious there has been some kind of supply problem over here in the past couple of months, whether you've been aware of it or not.

Anyway, whatever the reason, I'm really looking forward to tomorrow evening when I get a chance to play with this thing for the first time. Can't wait...

E-mail sent to our sales address shouldn't take two weeks to get a response. While we're down a sales person, they've been able to stay pretty much on top of things, as far as I had seen. I'll check into their e-mail backlog tomorrow.

I cancelled my Amazon order at the weekend and re-ordered from Ripcaster. I've just phoned Ripcaster to confirm they really do have stock and I've arranged to collect my all-black SB3 from them after work today (I work a couple of miles away from them in Reading). This is better than Royal Mail leaving a card on my doormat and me not being able to collect from a Post Office until Saturday. Very helpful - they even offered to bring it round to my work address instead but I can't get deliveries here as it's a secure site.

They say that they had a delivery of the new Logitech-branded SB3s on Thursday so they suspect that the two month shortage is now likely to be over. It's therefore possible that the Amazon orders will start flowing now too, although they will presumably have to settle their earliest orders first.

This is what I'm struggling with - on the one hand UK distributors have experienced a "two month shortage", and on the other, the Logitech & SD people are saying that "There's really no reason for there being a delay".

Something just doesn't add up ...

BTW Jim, my email was to Brian and was around March/April time.

Whilst I'm not going in to specific details of why the UK hasn't had any stock for the last 2 months I have happy to say that we received 800x units on Friday from Logitech and we fulfilled all of our back orders the same day. This means that all of our current re-sellers now have the stock they have had on back order with us and can fulfill your orders.

Moving forward we have placed rolling purchase orders with Logitech so now that the new Logitech branded product is available we should continually be in stock, especially on the run up to Christmas.

We should have another shipment leaving Logitech at the end of this week.

I can't believe people are talking about the latest must have christmas present already.

Although I am celebrating an Australasian xmas in three weeks here in the UK. Perhaps I should ask the misses for another one, the first was delivered this morning

That was probably the closest we'll get to an admission there's been a problem!

Anyway, after all the waiting, I received mine at work this lunchtime, and I'm looking forward to a very pleasant evening setting it up.

Don't worry - it won't take you all evening. 5 minutes to set up, then the rest of the time wondering why you didn't get one sooner!

As I'd hoped in my earlier post, I collected my all-black SB3 in person from Ripcaster on the way home from work and it's up and running perfectly.
BTW, it has a Logitech logo :)

I think the power supply is different too. At least it's not the same as I remember when I borrowed an older SB3 from a friend. His had the old-style remote though, so maybe things have moved on in the power supply area too. This one comes with UK and European 'prongs'.

Unfortunately it took me about 10 minutes to discover that my SB3 is apparently broken (dead display).

Aaaaaaaaaarrrrrggggghhhhh!!

The gods are obviously determined that I am not going to use one of these things.
