View Full Version : FW: wireless connection very intermittent

Thanks for your correspondence.

I checked my router log as you suggested (see below). It seems that the
line "* 00042005112D" appears whenever the squeezebox loses its connection
with the slimserver software. Unfortunately, I don't know how to interpret
"* 00042005112D".

Also of potential interest is the fact that other wireless devices seem to
lose the ability to communicate with the wireless router when the squeezebox
is active and reporting error messages. Thus, it is possible that the
squeezebox is somehow crashing the router. But I may be getting ahead of
myself here.

Wireless Router (SMC Barricade) log:

I hope you can get some technical help on the sleep/wake issue.

>For the record, I'm running:
>Slimserver 5.0.1on OSX 10.3.1
>Squeezebox with firmware 5
>Sonicwall TZW
>Squeezebox is in the room above the Sonicwall - signal strength (with
>antenna) is typically in the high 80's low 90's.
>I've explored the Squeezebox's behavior around my laptops sleep mode a bit
>and discovered:
>1) If I use the control panel to stop the Slimserver, I receive the message
>"Problem: Lost Contact with the Slimserver". If I then restart the
>Slimserver, the Squeezebox reconnects and everything is fine.
>2) If I do the same as above but have my laptop sleep in between the stop
>and restart, then the Slimserver does *not* reconnect. Also, in my
>firewall log, I see that my laptop's mac address has a "disassociated"
>event, meaning, i think, that the session has ended. Upon awakening and
>reconnecting with the firewall a new session is begun.
>3) If I put the laptop straight to sleep (no stopping Slimserver with
>control panel) the same as (2) occurs.
>After both (2) and (3) the Squeezebox is hung and will only display
>"Problem: Lost Contact with Slimserver" no matter which key on the remote
>is pressed. The only choice is to powercycle by unplugging and replugging.
>Peter, if you've got an ability to check your logs the wireless
>associations, perhaps there's something going on there as well?
>A somewhat different but possibly related problem is that if the
>Squeezebox's DHCP lease has expired during the time that it is hung - upon
>restart it doesn't seem to get a new lease properly. This may be more of
>an issue with my DHCP server.
>Also, the player can't seem to find my Slimserver machine regardless.
>Seems I always have to enter it manually.
