Hello all, This is my first post. I'm running Windows Vista, I'm a novice when it comes to computers. My squeezebox 3 was working fine, then something happened. So I did an uninstalled / reinstall (6.5.1) I'm getting no audio from my stereo when using slimserver. Everything seems to be working find on my PC. Squeezenetwork works normal through my Stereo. When I switch to Slimserver everything seems to be fine but I'm not getting any sound from my stereo. The (Now Playing) display reads whats suppose to be playing only nothing is acually playing. The status bar on the suqeezebox never moves.

Is your volume on your squeezebox turned down?

Digital output level is fixed

Try softsqueeze - if softsqueeze works then you know problem is probably with SB setup. If same symptoms with softsqueeze then problem is with Slimserver setup.

softsqueeze???????????

Softsqueeze a software emulation of a squeezebox. Look under Help section at bottom LHS of maion Slimserver web page

I really don't understand what's going on. I get sound when using Squeeze network but nothing when I connect to slim server.

What format are the files you are tyrng to play ?
From Slimserver can you play any internet radio stations such as one of the Somafm in Slim Picks ?

qqkltb
2007-05-06, 14:38
yes slimpicks plays with no problem

bpa

It looks like the problem is related to handling of your files. Next question - Is the problem the same or different with native format (e.g. flac, wma, mp3) and transcoded formats (e.g. aac,m4a, MWA lossless).

What format are the files you are trying to play ?

qqkltb

All my files are wav. Lossless

bpa
2007-05-07, 04:08
By default WAV files are transcoded into Flac when playing - there may be a problem with this mechanism.

To turn off transcoding -
goto server Setting/Filetypes
uncheck WAV->FLAC and WAV->MP3
click change.

The only WAV box checked should be the "built-in" - now test playing files.

Thanks bpa, that did it, everything is working fine now. You Da Man! Thanks again for the help.

That was just a workaround - your problem is probably due to socketwrapper not working possibly because security s/w or some other networking s/w installed.

Did you install any new networking s/w or update you security s/w ?

You will have the same "no sound" problem with any stream or format that requires transcoding.

A new version of socketwrapper is being tested to overcome these problems.

Hello guys, my first post.

Im having the same problem here, but ONLY with .wav files

MP3 and FLAC files are played flawlessly.

My wav files are all 16/44 pure pcm and SB3 shows the name of the file and its properties correctly, jut do not play them.

On the file type page if I set only built in for .wav it plays a white/pink noise and no music.

If I set Flac or both nothing happens.

I do not have LAME installed.

Ive already updated Flac fontend to 1.4 and it did not solve the problem either.

Network Test shows 100% even for 5000k

Ive already updated slimserver to 6.5.2

My wireless router is a Linksys wrt54g and Ive even restored it to default values without success.

I would appreciate any help or hint.

Regards

Mauricio

Just to be sure about the router, ive just set a second network using another router and the behavior is exactly the same.

flac and mp3 plays ok, .wav do not play at all.

You may have the same symptom as the OP but I think it is a different problem altogether.

Since wav files do not play either with or without transcoding - it looks like that either the files cannot be read or else the contents cannot be understood by both the flac app and the SB3 firmware.

So system details are needed.

1. What OS are you using ?
2. How were the WAV file created ?
3. What players can play these WAV files ?

Hello BPA,

Im using Win XP.

I got several wav files, most of them created from my own CDs using EAC. As I sayd they are all 16/44 plain pcm.

All players that ive tryed play them without a sweat.

Ive even created a second wireless network just for the SB to be able to debug this issue, disabling all security checks and that did not help either.

Ive downloaded some lossless wma files and they also dont play.

Interesting is that if I check only the "built in" for wma, it displays on SB "problem, cannot read file".

Im trying lots of new scenarios, but so far I could not glimpse anything that could be tampering with the reproduction.

Ive even tryed a sniffer over the wireless to find any suspicious tcp packets/requests, but so far nothing.

Thanks.

To see what is happening and perhaps get an idea of the bug - do a debug log with d_source and d_directstream enabled.

The FileTypes setting should be those which you believe send a WAV file unchanged to the SB3.

Ive just installed softsqueeze and it also dont play the wav nor the wma files.

Thats annoying.

Those were for .wav files

Those logs show the socketwrapper is being used and you are transcoding. It looks like you left WAV->FLAC enabled.

The problem is socketwrapper and probably some network or security s/w is blocking it.

You can either replace socketwrapper by an update if you wish to use transcoding or disable the relevant conversion to disable transcoding.

I am interested to know what s/w is causing this problem - can you open a command box (Dos box) and issue this command

netsh winsock show catalog >netshlog.txt

This will create file called netshlog.txt detailing what network s/w is installed. Can you attach it to a post.

Done.

Ive already disabled firewall, spyware, anti-virus and still no play.

BTW, my xp is in Portuguese, so if you need any help translating something, just le me know.

Tks again.

Disabling security s/w does not always mean they stop interfering - only uninstalling guarantees removal of their influence.

In your case the netsh log showed you are using NOD32. In which case you need to put socketwrapper.exe in the NOD32's IMON1 and IMON2 exclusion lists - this following post gives the details

Hooray. Problem solved.

A huge round of applause for you my friend ;)

That was right on the money.

You saved me countless hours of sleep.

Thank you VERY much.
