Nope. It seems to have exacerbated the problem.

I did make some network changes recently (upgraded my hub and switched
to cable broadband from DSL).

Also, I replicated the problem using my TiPB g4 with osx 10.3.2.

Any other suggestions?

Try updating to the latest pre-release version of the slimserver:

http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/nightly/latest

And let us know if that works better for you.
