"In recent months, Microsoft officials including Bill Gates have been softening their stances on DRM. Back in December 2006, Gates told bloggers in Redmond, WA that there are 'huge problems' with DRM and even advocated just buying CDs and converting the music tracks to MP3s"

Oh really?
Yea... MP3 - oboy.

Whaa? He's not going to even try offhandedly promoting WMA? :-)

December - this would have been before Steve Jobs' anti-DRM tirade? (That was Jan-Feb IIRC.) Didn't cause much of a stir at the time, but this means that Jobs was the "me too" guy in this case.

I'm sure the RIAA is seeing red over this trend.

I do like coming up with parallels to consumers accepting the transition from non-DRM lossless to DRM-ed lossy with little or no reduction in price. Maybe it's like expecting a pornstar for an all-night party, and your ex turns up and castrates you. Any better ones?
