The Squeezebox I've just bought and installed is great! But for some reason
it just won't play MP2 files or streams. It attempts to and plays "choppy"
audio. I can't see any settings for this and can't see what I could be doing
wrong. Can anyone advise me?
Thanks,
Andrew.

I have the same problem.

I got round the problem by using David Sheldons method (posted on the
15th):

If you have a machine where lame works, you can convert the mp2 files on
the fly:

Edit types.conf, find the line that says
mp3 mp2,mp3 audio/mpeg

replace it with 2 lines
mp2 mp2 audio/mpeg
mp3 mp3 audio/mpeg

Then edit convert.conf, and add the pair of lines:

mp2 mp3 squeezebox *
$lame$ --silent --mp3input -b $BITRATE$ $FILE$ -

This will transcode mp2 files to mp3 on the server if the client is a
squeezebox.

This works as an interim fix, but it would be nice if the squeezebox
could play mp2s directly. Is this likely to happen?

I've fixed this one. This weekend I will put the new firmware into the
nightly build.

I Updated to 5.1 last night, and V7 firmware. The mp2 playback is still
choppy. I thought this was fixed, can anyone confirm there is still a
problem?

Are you playing back MP2 files or streaming radio feeds?

MP2 files recorded directly from an MP2 broadcast stream (UK digital
TV/Radio service). I guess it's possible there is some extra
information in there. Plays fine in Winamp.

Can you send me a sample file? I'm listening to an MP2 file recorded
from the BBC that was sent to me some time ago and it's playing fine
here.

How are you recording them & what's the source, the file Dean's referring to
is (I think) the one I sent him, which was recorded from my DAB PCI card
using Dabbar.

Tahir,

I am using a Nebula DigiTV PCI Freeview adapter. The mp2 file is the
raw data from the BBC's Freeview service.

It's supposed to be a plain mp2 stream just like dab but I don't know, I
think you'd better email dean a small file so he can look at it

I've got it and have passed it on to Sean to investigate. The other
MP2 files we have all work, so I'm not sure what the issue is.
