View Full Version : can a firmware upgrade wreck wifi?

I have a squeezebox 2 and a 3 connected to the same network over wifi. I changed the server from a QNAP running 6.3.1 to a faster more memory Linux box running 6.5.1.

disconnected both; reconnected both; both asked to "press brightness to upgrade firmware"; did so - announced an upgrade to v 72. completion bar got to end; didn't immediately reboot (unusual?); went to bed; got up both were at "off" screen; neither would connect to the wifi.

Reconnected to Ethernet; reflashed firmware (had to go back to earlier (v65? linked to 6.3.1) then upgrade to 72 and wireless. After much fiddling the sqeezebox 3 is fine (wired or wireless). The squeezebox 2 can connect to either server wired, but whilst it can detect the SSID of the wireless network, and the password is entered correctly, it fails to obtain an IP address. This is whether I use DHCP or a static IP address.

If one squeezebox works and the other doesn't - I can only guess the wireless connection got spoilt by the suspected incomplete upgrade. The router does seem to drop out for a few seconds quite often.

sorry this is so long - but is there anyway to regain wireless connectivity?

Did you try a factory reset on the players (unplug, press and hold ADD
while powering up)? I did have to do this at some point with my boxes.
