Do you get an error message? Doesn't IE start at all? Windows version?

No error message. It does not open IE at all. Windows XP.

So, start IE separately and then point it at http://localhost:9000 - does that work?

So that sounds like slimserver isn't running. Is it showing up in the list of tasks in task manager?

If not, try starting from a command prompt window... this way you will also see any error messages there might be on startup.

I do not know how to do that.

Happened to me. I checked opened processes and found a stuck IE eating 98% CPU - killed it, then could open SS without problem. If problem persists - just restart your PC.

I do not know how to do that.

Open a command prompt window - usually in Programs - Accessories from the Start menu in windows.

Then;

cd \program files\slimserver\server
slim.exe

This should start slimserver, and as a bonus will show any error messages at startup.

A number of points

1. There was problem with SlimTray which didn't detect slimserver starting up correctly and opened the IE window too soon before slimserver was ready - I think it has been fixed in recent 6.5.2 builds.

2. On my system IE has some sort of cache so that when the "waiting for host" error occur - I had to stop & restart IE before the http://localhost:9000 would work.

3. Some security s/w removes the "localhost" entry from the windows hosts file so you may have to use http://127.0.0.1:9000 or even http://<yourPCipaddress>:9000

4. If you have WMP11 installed and running it will use port 9000 and stop slimserver running.

I installed SlimServer on a fresh install of Win2k (which also has McAfee running). SS would be in the system tray on startup and I could access localhost:9000 fine. I then tried to access it remotely and it didn't work (slow loading and 'page could not connect' page). But now I can't even access SS locally!! After rebooting and even uninstalling and reinstalling SS I get the same problem which is: SS tries to open (i can see the text flashing on the SB image in the system tray) but it doesn't load up. This seems crazy to me!

I went to command prompt and this is what comes out:

Note that MySQL isn't working - also that you have McAfee running. There are several threads here where McAfee has been reported as stopping this running - the fix IIRC is to tell McAfee to ignore certain file types used by MySQL...
