I've just written a little script (perl) that does
exactly what you suggest. It's not integrated into
the webinterface - you need to start it from a shell.

I named it 'FollowMe' ;)

Neat. I was also thinking that this would make a nice plugin, where
you could browse the playlists for other players.

I think there is a plugin that does something like this already...

Can't recall who created it (KDF comes to mind - but not sure) -
anyway, there's a plugin called Bookmark that saves the current
position in a playlist so you can go back to it later.

Not sure how/if it would work across multiple players though.
