Squeezebox plays with severe drop-out

XP 2.0 GHz, 512 MB ram
SlimServer Version: 5.0.3
Hard wired ethernet lan through Linksys router.

I am able to play music streamed from the SlimServer on another computer
in my LAN without problem which leads me to suspect the
cable/Squeezebox/amp. Squeezebox connects to the server and reports
play progress. Occasionally short clips of normal sounding music emerge
from the stereo through the Squeezbox. I would describe it as severe
drop-out.

Already tried:

replaced the ethernet cable
tried switching the wires on the router
tried different mp3s
With and without shuffle
Tried other amp inputs and reducing the Squeezebox volume to level 2

Nothing seems to work. Please help!

I'm not having much luck myself..

WinXP SP1
Squeezebox through Netgear switch/router wired or wireless.

Stuff that plays fine through WinAmp is starting on the squeezebox then
stopping and then some stuttering etc..

Ok, after reading some older posts, I may have it working smoothly by
turning OFF, "Offload TCP Segmentation" in the NIC properties.

Hi,

Do you have an Intel PRO ethernet card installed in your machine?

If you're having streaming problems such as short bursts of sound, or
the elapsed time counter jumping backwards, please try the following:

First, install the newest driver from Intel. It's available here:

http://support.intel.com/support/network/adapter/index.htm#PRO/1000

Next, open the network control panel and click "Configure", then view
the advanced options. Look for "TCP Segmentation Offloading" - turn
that off.
