View Full Version : NO GENRE bug revisited

Dean,

An excellent suggestion! The mysterious "no genre" entries seem to point to
the last track in each cue sheet, so I was focused on the cue files
themselves. But it turns out that the entries are created by the mp3 files
(which had no tags). I went through each mp3 that has a cue sheet and added
tags that exactly match the artist/album/genre "tags" in the cue file. And
voila! No more "no genre" entries.

Seems like the fix would be to ignore mp3 files (or whatever) that have a
corresponding cue file, although I can imagine how that might be non-trivial
to implement. Unless of course you said the cue sheet must be named
"xxx.mp3.cue" and must live in the same folder as the mp3. That would ok
with me since I do that anyway. :)

Of course, this "fix" doesn't help coyote, who I think started this thread
and isn't using cue sheets. The only thing I can suggest for him (this might
have been brought up already) is to double check playlists for any bogus
entries. I had a couple of "no genre" songs that I traced to an old
playlist...I had re-ripped several CDs, and the song titles had changed
slightly (an extra space or something silly like that).

Ken,

Is it possible that the duplicate entry you are seeing is for the full
MP3 file that the CUE file references?

I'm using the AAC files as generated by iTunes. I haven't used any
external programs to edit the tags. The problem seems to occur with
any song in my 6,134 song music collection... as songs are played, they
appear in the 'No Genre' list. I'm running the Christmas Day release
of SlimServer. If there is anything you would like me to try, Dean,
just let me know.

Do the songs disappear from their original Genre listing when they
appear in the No Genre section?

No. For example, the song
Squeezebox Home / Browse Genres / Soundtrack / French Kiss / Feels
Like A Woman
also shows up as
Squeezebox Home / Browse Genres / No Genre / No Artist / No Album /
Feels Like A Woman
