Hi everyone,

I am very close to finally buying a SB3! (Connected to a QNAP TS-101) But I noticed that there appears to have been some changes in the remote design/colour?

Can anyone let me know which one is 'best' (if there is indeed any difference other than colour)

Thanks, Nigel

Changes to the colour? Unless you ordered the white SB3 then no, the new remote is still black. The white SB3s used to come with a white remote, the new ones are black.

Most people like and prefer the new remotes over the older ones. The newer remotes are narrower and thicker. The buttons are bigger and it feels more solid.

The old remote is here: http://www.slimdevices.com/images/remote-180.jpg

The new remote is here: http://www.slimdevices.com/images/transporter/remote-top.jpg The Transporter comes with a backlit remote, the SB remotes are not backlit but you can order a backlit one separately: https://secure.slimdevices.com/order/upgrades.cgi

Are you certain? The box for my all-black SB3 has a photo of a white SB3 with a white new-style remote (white plastic, white buttons except for Power).

Personally, I think the new remote is a bit small. The transport, arrow, and volume buttons are pretty good, but the others are too small for my liking, not as easy to use as on the SB2-style remote. Using the new remote number keys reminds me of trying to touch-type on a laptop with smaller-than-standard keyboard.

That said, the button layout of the new remote is better (especially the new locations for Sleep and Volume Up/Down), Browse is a nice addition, and the on-button icons are nice, too. The glossy finish is a nice touch -- the hard plastic of the SB2 remote looks rather cheap by comparison. The new remote's finish and rounded corners reminds me of how Slim's SB1 remote had a matte finish like the Squeezebox itself.

Also, the web photos make the new remote look rather blocky, but it has a nice curve on the bottom much like the older remote controls, so it's more comfortable to hold than I expected. I find the new remote more comfortable to hold, though I don't like *using* the buttons below the volume rocker as much as with the SB/SB2 remote.

that you have around, since that functionality is programable within slimserver.

Really? I just assumed there wasn't a white one because I couldn't find any photos of it anywhere on the web site.

Makes sense though.
