Sorry, all these thoughts coming out of my head at once.

Again in the pre-squeezebox days, I had a matrix orbital display with LCDC.
This would display track and album info as well as new headlines, email
alerts, instant messaging messages etc.

I can do the music info and the news on the squeezebox.
The email seems to be broken at the moment and currently no sign on the
instant messaging.

Anyone got any cunning ideas about making LCDC seeing the squeezebox as
though it was a display.

Alternatlively, this XPL stuff seems interesting, presumably that would
allow easy interfacing of any software to the display.

Cheers,
Bruce.

Email alerts can be done with xAP.
Try http://www.xapframework.net/

Having become addicted to Call of Duty, and having written a perl script
that used qstat to gather RTCW stats and display them on an LCD or VFD,
I'm tempted to sit down and write a plug-in that'd use qstat to grab
stats from your favorite (quake, doom, rtcw, cod, etc.) server and
display them when you're not using the player.

I have about 2.5 more weeks in bed, recuperating from surgery, and
inbetween bouts of pain, I may find the time to examine how plug-ins are
written.

I don't suppose there are API docs for plugins yet?
