All,
I use my server PC for running slimserver and GBPVR. The latter is a little flakey at times, and I sometimes have to stop and start the gbpvr recording service on the host pc. Doing this means VNCing into the server from another PC.
Is it possible (ie easy for a complete beginner!) to add a menu item to the SB interface that will allow me to restart this service via the remote ?

Try kdf's Execute Script Plugin:
http://www.deane-freeman.com/slimserver/ to restart the server

I you are running XP, you can set it in the services. On the service, right click properties, in the recovery tab just to restart the service
