I updated to version 6.5.1 and proceeded to clear my library and rescan everything, which apparently was a vile mistake. Any time I do so, It leaves me with 1 album by 1 artist with 1 song (which doesn't exist). If I rescan, it finds any random 1/4 of the songs in my music folder. I've reinstalled and rescanned many times only to get about a quarter of the songs (and not necessarily the same ones) showing up in SlimServer each time. Any suggestions?

I'm sure you have tried this (and I'm not sure it will fix your issue) but I was having some flaky things happen as well with the install of 6.5.1 on top of 6.5 and a complete uninstall of slimserver and then a fresh install might help. It cleared up my issues...

Updated to 6.51 on both home (xp home with IE7) and work (xp pro with IE6). In both cases installing over the existing did not work, and I had to erase previous install and reinstall plugins. In both cases after fresh install slimserver would not start automatically at system start-up, at home would not start at all untill I installed the FAQ recommended web proxy address, but now the RSS feeds do not work. Adding eh web proxy at work did not work, and slimserver has to be manually started at boot up. I am at a loss as to why a product would be released that does not work without substantial tweaking on relatively standard systems when the previous version worked easily on them.

It reminds me of the wonderful days of DOS.

So far the scanning process has seemed fine.

I have indeed tried all of the above, but thanks for your suggestions. I suppose the next move is just to take v6.5.1 off entirely (again...) and just use one of the older versions I fortunately still have the installs for.

It actually seems like the more times I reinstall/rescan the less music I end up with. For instance, the 10cc folder (just happens to be first in the artist list) dropped from the full 16 tracks to 11 to 8 and now I've only got one showing.

What makes this more frustrating is that my music is on an XP Pro system with nothing more than a power cord in the back of it, so in solving all of these troubles I've been using remote desktop connection (puts a little more legwork into fully rebooting the computer for starters.)

What was the last version you've been using successfully? Have you ever
been on the 6.5.x series before?

When you look at Windows' event log - do you see anything slimserver
related? Have you ever tried running the scanner from the command line?
What does the log file say? Turn on d_info & d_scan, restart full scan and
see what the log says after it finishes.

I have similar problems with 6.5.x (starting with 6.5 allready). ) In my case about 25% of all files where not indexed after a complete rebuild of the DB. Anyhow, after a rescan for new files, some of the missing files did show up, and after some 12 or so days with nightly rescan for new files the index DB was complete.

I discussed thet with the tech support allready and they have ben able to sort of reproduce the problem: Some files simply dont get indexed for unknown reasons. Anyhow, They did not come up with a real solution so far (seems they ahve given up...)

Anyhow, because a dozen rescans or so do the job for me, its not such a big deal and I can live with it.

Another problem I have since 6.5 (wihtich still exists with the currently installed 6.51) is that all tracks in the current playlist are showed to be from the same album which is the currently played track from.

Hm. I guess I need to cleariefy that a bit:

Lets asume the current playlist has 3 records in it say
"Beatles-Love",
"Carl Orff-Camina Burana"
"XOL DOG 400 - Unstable Prototype"

All of these records have more then one track, so the playlists consists of about 30 tracks.

If the current track played is f.e. "Strawberry Field forever" from the Beatles album "Love" then the webinterface shows that all OTHER tracks, including the ones from Carl Orff and YOL DOG 400 are from the album/recording "Love".

Once track from XOL DOG 400 plays, all tracks are from the album/recording "Unstabel Prototype".

If you click on a track for detailed information, then this detailed information shows the correct data. Its onyl in the current playlist window.

(using Server 6.5-6.5.1, German, Server running on a Mac withOS X 104.7 -10.4.8 DE )

The problem seems to be limited to the skin DARK however.

I've tried an uninstall and a re-install. My symptom is that Slimserver won't start.

I find this message in the event log:

C:\PROGRA~1\SLIMSE~1\server\Bin\MSWIN3~1\mysqld.ex e: unknown option '--install SlimServerMySQL'

I have no idea of how to fix this.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,
Thomas

When I install the following, I'm back to operational:

SlimServer Version: 6.5.0 - 9916 - Windows XP - EN - cp1252
Server IP address: 192.168.1.3
Perl Version: 5.8.7 MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
MySQL Version: 5.0.22-community-nt

I was using 6.5.0 previously.

Reverting to v6.5.0 leaves me with 0 albums with 0 songs by 0 artists instead of the aforementioned (and false) 1/1/1, which obviously is no better. I'm getting closer and closer to formatting the computer and starting over, but before I do that I'm going to go ahead and continue reverting back Slimserver with each version I can find just in case one works.

Does anyone happen to know where all of the registry entries made by Slimserver can be found so that I can make sure that I have cleared them out as well in case there's any problem there?

Windows event logs contain nothing to do with SlimServer (although there were multiple mySQL errors that I haven't yet dug through very far...are these important?) and I became impatient with v6.3.1 after installing it and waiting 30 minutes only for it still to be "starting Slimserver."

Version 6.3.1 happens to be the latest one I have the install file for prior to v6.5.0, and when I install it Slimserver won't even start.

Before this problem started happening but before upgrading from 6.5.0 to 6.5.1 I installed Media Player 11 on the server in order to enable music sharing with my Xbox 360. Could that have anything to do with it?

WMP11 is known to cause problems with SlimServer - it'll sometimes take over port 9000 that SlimServer needs - see here: http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=32042

Old SlimServer versions are here as always: http://www.slimdevices.com/downloads/

I formatted the computer and reinstalled Windows, and everything works now. Who knows what the issue was.

Try 6.5.2 - it's due to be released very soon. And the installer has been
improved a lot.

Programme removal and re-install of 6.51 cured it for me.

Sorry, in my previous post I didn't mean to say SLIME SERVER. I do find using the Squeezebox almost that frustrating - sometimes I actually just want to listen to music rather than learn about PC's LOL.
