Now that it's official, I am trying 6.5.1 again
(have been using 6.3.1 apart from an early foray into
6.5.1 two months ago). I use WinXP SP2.

One thing I noticed is some of the older skins are missing
(exbrowse, default2). Are these or more skins available
elsewhere as plugins?

The total track count ("songs")
still shows 17 less than it should (I have 49487
tracks (mp3 files) in all; the song count shown
by slimserver is 49470). Also the artist count
is incorrect (2632 while it should be 2633).
I have convinced myself after some debugging that all
tracks are scanned properly and are in the library;
so my current theory is that there is something
unconventional in the way the count statistics are
gathered by slimserver. What might account for
the undercounting of all tracks and artists in the library
in 6.5.1? All counts are accurate in SS 6.3.1.

Also, as other threads have pointed out, FF and REW
buttons don't really work (neither with the remote
nor from slimserver, eg with the fishbone skin, and,
again, all my files are 256Kbs CBR MP3). But this problem
exists with 6.3.1 (and associated firmware) as well.
Any chance FF and REW will be fixed eventually?

Thanks

No, they are discontinued. Their respective developers may update them again, or they may not - it's up to them.

FF and REW should work fine with MP3 provided you're not transcoding it. What happens when you press-and-hold FF or REW? Press and hold, don't tap.

6.5.x has some problems with counts. The totals presented on the main page seem to be accurate on my system. But total artists, I believe, may depend on the settings you're using for compilation (various artists) albums. When I descend into browse Albums I see a much higher number of artists - this appears to be the exact number in my database, minus 1 for 'Various Artists'.

Counts displayed while browsing Genres seem to be the most screwed up. Could be because of the way the hierarchy is set up. You first see artists, but all of the albums for those artists may not belong to the genre. Or it may be confusion over tracks tagged with more than one genre. It's not at all consistent - sometimes it's short, sometimes it adds.

Like you, I haven't seen any evidence that any tracks are being skipped in the scanning. Just some screwy queries being used for the counts.

When I press and hold (on the slimserver web interface)
FF or REW nothing happens. On the remote, the functionality
kind-of-works after press and hold, but it still seems
flaky (the rate of advance in FF, for example, is unpredictable
and non-uniform despite the 2X, 4X etc. speed indicators).

The FF and REW on the web interface is limited to the fishbone skin, which I don't use, so I don't know.

I have similar behavior from FF/REW on the remote. So it is working on your setup at least as well as it does for me, but it's pretty shaky, I'll agree.
