Everything was working well with SB2 until today, I turned it on and tried to play a song and the SB2 responded as always with 'Now Playing' but no sound comes out of my speakers and the Spectrum Analyzer doesn't move, just a continuious line of '-----' on the display! Any ideas?

I've tried factory reset and pressing '1' at power on, all to know avail, I can remote stream to WinAmp etc no problem...

Just an update on this, I've tried pressing the power button and pressing 3, an annoying tone can be heard for ages until I power the unit off, I've also tried programming xilinx by pressing 1. Still no sound from the SB2

That the spectrum analyzer shows a flatline would imply that it isnt the audio output... I would suspect something like a firewall on your server. If the SB can't connect to grab the music stream it will do something like what you describe: the server -thinks- the SB is playing but the SB knows better (but since the display comes from the server... it can't say anything different).

Can you turn off your firewall for a bit and see if that fixes it?

If the test tone plays then your hardware is OK. Look for a firewall issue, or perhaps something on the server side that is preventing it from opening files or something. Also try SqueezeNetwork.

Firewall is turned off and still the same, my network setup hasn't changed for months and everything worked fine yesterday....

All firewalls disabled and still no good, I'm hardwired in now and the SB2 cannot connect to SqueezeNetwork, it tries then just goes blank and turns off!

I think I've got gremlins, I can now connect to SqueezeNetwork and all is well, now I'll try connecting to my server....

Connected to my server and it's silent again, argh! Connected back to SqueezeNetwork and silence again......! :-(

Have you tried rebooting your router? My cheapo Belkin does something like that every month or two, just stops routing things it doesn't feel like routing.

When a song is 'Now Playing' in the Fishbone skin the duration bar only ever gets about 1/8 of the way across then restarts from the begining again....

It seems that if I do a factory reset & connect to SqueezeNetwork (Radio 1) first & not SlimServer it works fine but, as soon as I connect to SlimServer the silence returns...

Is there any debug I can turn on that might help?

Hrrm.. is the server restarting perhaps?

I don't know how to tell on Windows... assuming a fast enough machine and no slow-initializing-plugins it could be crashing and coming back quickly so you don't notice the crash.

I would think the SB would black the display at some point when it lost connection, but, then, my startup time is sorta slow since I have tons of plugins to initialize...

No, the sever is not restarting, it's been running happily on this PC for nearly 18 months with n problems...

OK this is going to sound stupid, but my SB3 will often do what you are describing on internet radio stations and the only way to reconnect is to actually unplug the power cord from the back of the SB3, wait a few seconds and plug it back in. After it reboots, reconnects, etc. all is well. I know you've been doing diagnostics for days but did you try this?

I've often un-plugged the power, if I then re-connect the power and connect to SqueezeNetwork before I connect to SlimServer I can listen to Radio 1 no problem, if I then dis-connect from SqueezeNetwork and connect to SlimServer I get the silent treament from SB2, if I then connect back to SqueezeNetowrk I also get the silent treament from their too !

The plot thickens, I've even tried upgrading to 6.5.1 & the same happens -

Hmmm, after a chat with Slim tech support the advice was that 'something' on the PC was blocking ports, advised to uninstall McAfee (damn program) and re-install SlimServer, guess what, all is working as before. What I don't understand is why it just started doing this after so long of working with no hicups! Oh well, PC's, eh what would we do without them ;-)
