I've written a quick HowTo article at:
http://www.xplproject.org.uk/articles/slimshutdown/

There is an article that walks you through installing the free xPLHal software, and another that details how to get your Slim to shut down your computer.

John

John, great thanks.... but surely there's a way to do this without
needing a 23.1 meg download from MS, plus all the other bits and
pieces? I realise MS is known for their bloatware, but all I want to do
is shut the box down without resorting to an AC timer switch!

Here's a program that will perform a shutdown on your Windows box:

http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/shutdown/shutdown.htm

At 18k, it's a bit skinnier than .NET. I'll leave the plugin to someone with a
Windows box they can play with.

John...

I followed your instructions and it works like a charm (excellent
instructions by the way).
Sweet! I can now turn off the server from my armchair before going to
bed. Thanks a million for this!
I'll now read up on xpl, and see what else it can do for me. This has
real potential, using the SlimP3/SqeezeBox remote, to automate the
home!

Excellent!

Mike.
