View Full Version : Shutting down the (Win2k-) Server-Machine with the Squeezebox

Hello,

I just received my Squeezebox and it is fantastic and easy to use ...

Thinking about the Server-Software, I decided to install WIN2k on the Server, because
for me it is easy to use my RAID-1-System on that System.

Well, maybe I will change it some day to a Debian-System but I'am not that professional,
to use a RAID-1-System under Debian (Woody !).

MY QUESTIONS:

1. Is there a possibility, to shut down my (WIN2K) server with the remote control?
My Wife don't want to go down into the cellar late in the night, to shut down the machine
manually. And we both don't want to run the server 24 hours a day.

2. I have some problems to understand the using of internet radio. How can I use it?
How can I manually write my own *.m3u-file? The description on the slimdevices-site
doesn't give me enough help. For example my wife and me want to listen to the Yale
station WYBC. How could we listen to that station?

Thanks for all help.

You could write a plugin (if you have some Perl skills). Or give kdf's
"execute script plugin" a try
(http://callisto.deane-freeman.com/slimserver/). You'd still have to find
a small program to shut down your machine, or the rundll parameters to do
so. I don't know them by heart, but I'm sure a little googling will find
them (http://www.google.com/search?q=rundll+shut+down).

How do you listen to them today? If you're using Winamp, simply find your
station in its "Internet Radio" panel and save the resulting playlist in
your slimserver's playlist folder.

http://www.grc.com/wizmo/wizmo.htm will do the trick.

I use it to do quick reboots and shutdowns. However, you need to use
kdfs execute script plugin to call upon Wizmo.
